RVAS New Member Links

Welcome to the Roanoke Valley Astronomical Society!

Here are a few new-member links I have selected that will help you get a "fast start" with this fascinating hobby. If you are new both to us and to the hobby, you will be astonished at the fascinating variety of absolutely free astronomy sites out there. If you are new to us, but "old" to the hobby, you will soon want to go beyond these selections.

What I best like about astronomy links is how you can visit them at any time, and in any weather. Nevertheless, there is no substitute for getting outdoors as often as possible under a starry sky. Ideally, your explorations on the Internet AND under starry skies will enhance each other.

I have spent several years accumulating and editing these links. I got started with this list when I wanted to learn more without wandering aimlessly around the Internet looking for "the good stuff." My full site, astronomy-links.net, has several hundred links...and there are many more out there for you to eventually visit.

But for now, just click on whatever below interests you. These links are not presented in any order of value. Use them as a resource that you can access repeatedly, and don't forget to use your club mentor as your personal resource.

A number of these links seemingly have little to do with stargazing. Astronomy is so much more than simply looking at bright sparklies in the night sky. We are indeed children of the stars, and our Earth is fully part of the universe's dynamic neighborhood.

If you wish to ask me about anything on my links site you can email me at this hotmail address: cmtastronomy (at) hotmail.com.
